Teams let you organize users and resources within an organization — creating one is the first step to controlling who has access to what. This article covers how to create a team, edit its settings, and archive, restore, or permanently delete teams.
Create a team
There are three ways to open the team creation dialog:
- From the organization dashboard, go to the Teams card and select + New Team.
- From Settings, open the Teams tab and select + Create Team.
- From the team selector in the top header, choose + Add team.
All three options open the Create New Team modal.
In the Team Name field, enter a name for the team, then select Create Team.
When the team is created, three things happen automatically:
- You are added to the team as an Administrator.
- All existing organization administrators are added to the team as Administrators.
- A team ID is generated and appears as static text in the team list. The team ID is not editable.
After creation, the platform navigates you to the new team's workspace.
Edit a team
To edit a team's settings, go to Settings → Teams, then select the pencil icon on the team's row. This opens the Edit Team modal.
The modal contains two fields:
- Team Name — the existing name is pre-populated; update it if needed.
- Auto-approve new members — when enabled, new member requests for this team are approved automatically. This toggle is off by default.
When you are done, select Update Team.
Archive, restore, and permanently delete a team
Archive a team
To archive a team, go to Settings → Teams, then select the archive icon (box icon) on the team's row.
A confirmation dialog appears. Select Archive Team to confirm.
After archiving, the team is removed from the active list. To view archived teams, use the Show archived teams toggle on the Teams page.
Restore a team
Only organization administrators can restore archived teams; team administrators cannot.
To restore a team, go to Settings → Teams and turn on the Show archived teams toggle. Find the team and select Restore. A confirmation dialog appears — select Restore Team to confirm.
After restoring, the team reappears in the active list.
Permanently delete a team
A team must be archived before it can be permanently deleted.
To permanently delete an archived team, go to Settings → Teams, turn on the Show archived teams toggle, find the team, and select Delete. The Permanently Delete Team dialog opens.
Type the exact team name in the confirmation field to activate the Delete Permanently button, then select it.
Reference: team settings and roles
Team settings
| Setting | Where it appears | Default | Editable | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Team Name | Create New Team modal, Edit Team modal | — | Yes | Required. Maximum 100 characters (enforced on save). |
| Auto-approve new members | Edit Team modal | Off | Yes | Requires organization-level Allow Auto-approve to be on. If you cannot change this setting, enable Allow Auto-approve first. |
| Allow Auto-approve | Settings → Teams → Related Settings | Off | Yes | Organization-level setting. Must be enabled before any team can use auto-approve. |
Team roles
The four team roles provide progressively broader access:
| Role | At a glance |
|---|---|
| Viewer | Can view team content. |
| Member | Can contribute to the team's work. |
| Trusted Member | Has broader collaboration access than a Member. |
| Administrator | Can manage the team and its members. |
Organization administrators always have Administrator access to every team, regardless of their assigned role. Their role cannot be changed or removed via the team interface.
